Osteoarthritis of Knee Joint is a degenerative disorder of knee joint that affects people who are more than 40 years of age. - Patients usually complain of pain and swelling around knee joint which are aggravated by sitting on the floor and climbing stairs. - Sometimes patients also have crackling sound on movement of knee joint; which is also known as crepitus, and deformity of the joint. - It is usually diagnosed by plain X-ray of the knee joint, which shows decreased joint space with bony spurs around the knee(Osteophytes) and angulation of the bones involving the Knee Joint. - In initial stages if diagnosed early, most of the patients can be successfully treated non-operatively by medicines, physiotherapy and appropriate exercises. - Some patients who do not respond to these conservative therapies and in whom the mobility is severely affected may require surgery. Commonly done surgeries are: 1.) High tibial osteotomy 2.)
